Use this guide to setup your MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) with Office 365 once enabled by the I.T Team.

https://outlook.office.com/mail/  (You should be able to just go here and follow the steps and skip everything else on this page in most cases) If you don’t see any steps, sign out and back in.

Choose Text or Call whichever you prefer but Text is recommended and use a cell phone number if you do choose text.

 

On Step 3 save the app password by clicking the copy button to use for your local Outlook later.

 

Each time you first use an application like Teams, Word, Excel, etc. it will send you a code to authenticate and confirm the app is safe on that device.

In Word/Excel/PowerPoint look for a yellow warning to click on and sign in at the top.

 

We recommend restarting your computer once or twice after the setup to make sure your Outlook and Teams works as it can take up to 24 hours to go into full effect and be prompted.

 

***If your local Outlook prompts for the password again and again after enabling the MFA. We need to enter the App password for the first time in order to log into outlook. 

 

To create a new app password, please follow the below mentioned steps:

 

  1. Sign into https://portal.office.com/account/?ref=MeControl#security  
  2. Security and privacy > click/expand “additional security verification”.

 

  1. If you don’t see step 3 text to expand -sign out and sign back into your webmail.
  2. Select the text “Create and manage app passwords” to open the App passwords page.
  3. Click “create” and enter a name of your choosing and select Next 
  4. Copy the password from the Your app password page, and then select Close.
  5. Enter the same password in outlook and click the checkbox to remember.

***If your phone has company email and doesn’t send you a text when you try to sign in then remove the email from your phone and add the email account back to it from scratch.
